Friday night at the Toshiba Plaza in Las Vegas, Nevada, WBA-NABA lightweight champion Petr Petrov (37-4-2, 17 KOs), from Madrid, Spain, by way of Ryazan, Russia, stopped former NABF lightweight champion Marvin Quintero (28-7, 24 KOs), from Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, at the end of round six due to a swollen eye caused by an accidental clash of heads.

“It was a very hard fight,” said Petrov. “I’ve been off for a year. I felt slow and sluggish. But winning is all that matters.”

Dr. Vicki Mazzorana examined Quintero at the end of the sixth round and advised referee Jay Nady that he couldn’t continue.

“I’m very disappointed with the decision that the doctor rendered,” said Quintero. “I felt I was capable of going on. I was already fighting for two rounds without being able to see.”

Petrov was ahead on two of the three scorecards, 58-56 and 58-56. The third judge had it even 57-57 at the time of the stoppage.
