WBA returns to Puerto Rico for Danny Garcia title defense

After five years, the World Boxing Association will sanction a title fight in Puerto Rico. The long wait ends next week when the 140 lbs super champion Danny García, defends his title on March 15 in Bayamon.

He will fight the Mexican Mauricio Herrera at the Rubén Rodríguez coliseum. The challenger has a record of 20-3 while the super champion is undefeated in 27 fights with 16 KO’s.

The World Boxing Association last sanctioned fight in Puerto Rico was between Nonito Donaire and Hernan Tyson Marquez for the Interim super flyweight title that took place in the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum, in San Juan.

The WBA returns with the Puerto Rican descendent champion Danny Garcia. The fighter said the press conference held in the island that he is excited to fight there.

The words of García were direct to the hosts. He has said that although he was born in Philadelphia, he is very proud of the Puerto Rican blood that runs through his veins.

“It is important for me to reach my fans, because I believe Puerto Rican boxing needs it right now… I might have been born in Philadelphia but Puerto Rico runs through my blood” said the super champion of the super lightweight division.
