Former WBA World super bantamweight champion Juan Jose Estrada, aka “Dinamita,” passed away Sunday at the age of 51. According to Juan Carlos Pelayo, President of Tijuana Boxing and Wrestling Commission, Estrada was stabbed to death during a family quarrel in Tijuana.

Estrada had his professional debut on Aug. 7, 1983 at the age of 19, a first round knockout over Victor Cuevas.

He won the WBA World super bantamweight title on May 28, 1988, by decisioning Bernardo Pinango at the Plaza de Toros in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

Estrada successfully defended his title three times in the next 14 months, before losing the crown to Jesus Salud by DQ at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California.

After losing his next three fights, Dinamita decided to call it quits. He retired in 1994 with a 36-11, 30 KOs record.

We extend our condolences to his family and friends.
