Beibut Shumenov and B.J. Flores face off over a scheduled 12 rounds for the interim WBA World cruiserweight title at the Palms Casino and Resort’s Pearl Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada, this Saturday, July 25.

Thirty-one-year-old Shumenov (15-2, 10 KOs) fights out of Las Vegas by way of Shymkent, Kazakhstan. An eight-year pro, Shumenov won the WBA World light heavyweight title by decisioning Gabriel Campillo in January 2010 (the WBA upgraded Shumenov to Super World light heavyweight champ in October 2013). He successfully defended his title five times before being decisioned by Bernard Hopkins in April 2014. Never stopped, his other loss was to Campillo, who won by majority decision when they fought for the title in August 2009. He most recently fought in December 2014, retiring Bobby Thomas Jr. in the fifth. Shumenov is ranked #1 by the WBA.

Born in San Francisco, California, but currently a resident of Chandler, Arizona, 36-year-old Flores is a 12-year ring vet (31-1-1, 20 KOs) who last fought in October 2014, stopping Kevin Engel by third-round TKO. “El Peligroso” retired Nicholas Iannuzzi in the fifth in July 2011 to win the vacant WBA-NABA USA cruiserweight title, decisioned Paul Jennette in October 2011 to win the vacant WBA Fedelatin cruiserweight title, and stopped David McNemar by second-round TKO in October 2012 to win the vacant WBA-NABA cruiserweight title. Never stopped, Flores’ sole loss came at the hands of Danny Green, who won by unanimous decision in November 2010. He drew against Semisi Bloomfield in November 2003. Flores is ranked third by the WBA.

The winner of Shumenov-Flores will likely get a shot at Denis Lebedev’s WBA World cruiserweight title.

The fight, promoted by Premier Boxing Champions, will air live on NBCSN at 9:00 p.m. (ET).
