Segura stops Rubillar

By Julio Thyme 27/07/2009

Giovanni Segura (21-1-1 with 17 KOs) scored a sixth round TKO over Juanito Rubillar (46-13-7 with 22 KOs). It was an interesting match-up as Rubillar, despite his record, gave a fair account of himself in the opening rounds. Segura appeared desperate to make a statement and score a big KO.

As a result, he was very wild throughout, winning shots and missing big but getting damage done to his opponent to the body in particular.

The first was Rubillar’s best round and from then on, it was all Segura as he pressed the action and won the fight on sheer aggression, heavy hands, and volume punching. The towel was thrown in at 2:04 of the sixth round but it was at an odd moment as

Rubillar, trapped in the corner, seemed to make Segura miss with at least five shots and didn’t appear hurt at all. But even still, the fight was becoming very one-sided and saved the fighter from any more damage.
