Interim WBA World super featherweight champ Emanuel Lopez will defend his title against Miguel Roman over a scheduled 12 rounds in Mexico, at a location yet to be determined, on Saturday, October 24.

Twenty-five-year-old Lopez is a five-year vet (19-4-1, 8 KOs) who fights out of Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico. “Pollo” won the title in March by stopping Carlos Padilla via ninth-round TKO. He defended his crown in June, stopping Rolando Giono by 10th-round TKO. Lopez has only been stopped once, by Jose Zepeda who knocked him out in the third in December 2013. First-ranked by the WBA, he’s won five of his last six.

Roman, 29, has been fighting out of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, since 2003 (52-11, 39 KOs). “Mickey” most recently fought in August, knocking out Leonardo Doronio in the third. A hard puncher, Roman is blessed with an equally hard chin. He’s only been stopped once, by Antonio DeMarco who knocked him out in the fifth in March 2012. Roman hasn’t lost since October that year, decisioned by Dante Jardon. He’s had 14 consecutive wins since. Among those defeated was Daniel Ponce De Leon, who retired from the ring following his loss by ninth-round TKO in June 2014.

The fight is promoted by Distrito Box Promotions and Promociones del Pueblo, and will be aired by Mexico Televisa.
