London Olympian Cameron Hammond (10-0, 4 KOs) clearly outscored Alfredo Rodolfo Blanco (11-2, 5 KOs) over ten rounds at the Moree Town Hall, Moree, NSW, Australia on Saturday. Scores 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92. Blanco’s style was unorthodox but Cameron gained control in round two and outworked his Argentine opponent in most of the rounds to capture the vacant WBA Oceania welterweight title. “Cameron boxed well against a difficult opponent and this was a good learning fight at this stage of his career,” said Ricky Hatton who guides Hammond’s career under Hatton Promotions.

Hammond said “It feels great to have my first title as a pro and I’m very thankful to the people of my hometown of Moree for the support they showed me. He was a tricky opponent who didn’t come to lie down, but I think I handled everything he had to win well. I can’t wait for my next fight now.”

In the main supporting light middleweight contest Australian based Filipino Joel Dela Cruz (17-21-3, 7 KOs) boxed a six round technical draw against Michael Mlacic (8-2-2, 2 KOs).
