Friday, January 9, 2015 will be the duel day between the interim lightweight champion, Colombian Darleys Pérez and Peruvian challenger Jonathan Maicelo, in the ring of the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California.

Perez (31-1, 20 KO) is making the second defense of the title he won in June 2014. This time opponent is known in the US as the “last Inca” Maicelo (21-1, 12 KO) who is challenging the world title for the first time.

The Colombian said his challenger’s “is quite slippery and quick, but we have done a good job to counteract those moves and make a great fight”.

He also said to be satisfied with the preparation made in Panama “I sparred with several boys, taking full advantage of the situation to get in a good rhythm for the evening”.

Perez says he has the expertise to make a successful defense of his title, “what matters is to be focused on what you want to achieve your goals, that is how I see things”.

On the other hand, Maicelo considers Perez as a “good fighter, fast and technical.” That is why he is the champion” and added that he is prepared for the challenge.

He assures he is ready to be world champion, “I will not waste all this time I spent training. My commitment is to win or win. It is now or never”, he said to the press, “it has been a long road to get to where I am, I am not going to miss this opportunity. The WBA interim Championship will be mine; I have the intention of take me home the victory.
