WBA World heavyweight champion Ruslan’s Chagaev’s demolition of Francisco Pianeta Saturday night at GETEC Arena in Magdeburg, Sachen-Anhalt, Germany, made many people sit up and notice.

One of those people is WBA #3 ranked Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne.

The Australian is unbeaten at 22-0 with 19 KOs. He liked what he saw during the weekend, but believes he has what it takes to dethrone the hard-hitting Uzbek.

“Chagaev was always going to win that fight. That’s why it happened,” he told Fight News, “but I thought it would’ve lasted a bit longer. Now he needs to get past Oquendo before I take the title.”

Chagaev heard Browne’s challenge, but he’s focused on WBA #4 ranked Oquendo. After that, however, if all goes according to plan, he’d like a rematch with the Big Kahuna.

“I am the WBA World Heavyweight Champion,” he told World Boxing News, “so at some point Wladimir, being the Super Champion, will have to fight me unless he loses or retires.”

Klitschko may have his hands full with Tyson Fury, who many people, for reasons known only to them, believe will beat the champ. One of the people who hopes he doesn’t beat the champ is Ruslan Chagaev.

“I am always ready to fight him. I didn’t really have time to prepare and get ready for our first fight. I took that chance on very short notice and was not in the best condition I could have been in. So I hope I can prove that I can do better against him if I am well prepared. However, I am not one of these guys who only run around and call out Wladimir Klitschko because they are expecting a big payday.”

Dr. Steelhammer is like Floyd Mayweather in that regard. He’s the straw that stirs the drink.

“Whenever the fight comes I will be happy to fight him,” added Chagaev. “But for the moment I have to take care of my own business and defend my title against the challengers waiting for me.”
