On this day in 1949, was born Venezuelan fighter Betulio González, in Santa Bárbara del Zulia, Zulia State.

His love for boxing began after seeing “Pepe El Toro” with the Mexican actor and singer Pedro Infante.

He gave his first amateur steps in 1965, when at the age of 15 he entered an improvised ring in a neighbor’s House. He managed to become regional, national, Latin American and Central American champion.

He became professional in 1968, and got 16 consecutive victories before he was defeated in March 1970 by Félix Márquez and then in May by Ignacio Espinal. Months later he would take revenge on both and would return to the winning path.

He was the flyweight champion on three occasions, from 29 December 1971 to September 29, 1972, later from 4 August 1973 to October 1, 1974. On both occasions was he owner of the WBC belt.

His third championship was the WBA’s from August 12 to November 17, 1979.

He hung the gloves with a record of 78-12-3, 52 KO´s.

¡Congratulations Betulio!
