"La Niña" Suarez goes Dancing with the Stars in Panama

WBA Interim Featherweight champion, Ogleidis “la Niña” Suarez will participate in the Program Dancing with the Star, starting tomorrow on TVN, channel 2 of Panama. The show will begin on May 16 at 7 pm.

Nine other stars will be dancing in the competition to help their mates achieve their dreams.

This new commitment will not keep “La Niña” Suárez away from her daily gym work or from her boxing career.

As ringside physicians, the safety of the athlete is our overwhelming objective. We need to be sure that things go right, but we also must be sure that things do NOT go wrong. The rules, laws and conditions of each country and state may vary. Our professional and basic duty to protect the athlete is universal.

I personally reviewed 19 fatal or catastrophic boxing/martial arts injuries and served as an expert medical witness in three legal proceedings. Important points must be highlighted from these case evaluations. In some of these cases there was no oxygen at ringside. A significant delay in the administration of oxygen represents a serious FAULT.

The failure to properly transport (or failure to arrange for rapid, efficient transport of an injured athlete to an appropriate medical facility) is also a significant matter. Timely medical care is a must. Many times it is useful to make pre-arrangements with ambulance companies or hospitals in the area so they are aware that an athletic event is being planned. Every Second after a serious injury will be anal7yzed and scrutinized.

The WBA regrets the sensible pass away of two-time Jr. Welterweight world Champion, Eddie Perkins at the age of 75.

Perkin became professional boxer in 1956 with an amateur record of 26 wins 10 loses. He won his first title in September 1962 to Duilio Loi, to whom he lost it in the same year.

However, in June 1963 he defeated Roberto Cruz to regain his crown and kept it through 1965.
His final record was 74-20-2, 21 KO’s.

Golovkin destroys Fuchigami

WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (23-0, 20 KOs) destroyed Makoto Fuchigami (19-7, 10 KOs) in the third round on Saturday night at the Ice Palace “Terminal” in Brovari, Ukraine. The overmatched Fuchigami was cut by a punch in round one and dropped in round two by a hard Golovkin right hand. Golovkin really unloaded on Fuchigami in round three, putting him down again and it was waved off shortly after. The World Boxing Association has ordered that current “Super Champion” Felix Sturm and Golovkin must fight by September 30, 2012. Golovkin stated after the fight that he wants Sturm next. “If he calls himself a true champion, he must fight me,” said Golovkin.

Boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr (43-0, 26 KOs) dethroned WBA super welterweight world champion Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KOs) by twelve round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. A good competitive fight. Floyd had the edge in most rounds over the first six rounds, but Cotto had his moments. Cotto was determined to take the fight to Mayweather and bloodied his nose early on.
