The World Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association (WBA) performed a purse bid this Monday morning, at the Sheraton Panama Hotel and Convention Center in Panama City, Panama, for two world title fights.

The purse bids were directed by WBA executives, Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, Jose Oliver Gomez, Aurelio Fiengo and Miguel Prado.

The first purse bid was for the WBA Lightweight title, between Paulus Moses and Miguel Acosta. Tony Gonzalez, Don King Productions (DKP), submitted an offer of $151,000 dollars. No other bids were offered, so DKP won the bid.

Per WBA rules, the champion will received 55% of the purse and the challenger 45%.

The minimum purse bid was set at $150,000 dollars.

DKP offered Namibia, U.S.A. and Germany as possible sites. The fight must be done in no less tha 45 days and no more than 90 days.

The second bid was for the WBA Cruiserweight title, between champion Guillermo Jones and mandatory challenger Valery Brudov.

Tony Gonzalez, Don King Productions (DKP), representing Jones, submitted an offer of $200,000 dollars.

Sampson Lewkowicz, representing Brudov, offered $200,000 dollars.

200,000 was the minimum offer. 75% for the champion and 25% for the challenger.

A 30 minutes recess was taken, for the WBA executive members to deliberated and make a decision on the tied bid.

Aurelio Fiengo informed both parties that DKP was the winning bidder, since the deposit check submitted was certified in accordance to WBA rules. The deposit check submitted by Leckowicz was not a certified check.

During the recess, special guest, 2004 Olympian and current WBA lightheavyweight champion, Biebut Shumenov, receives his brand new WBA belt, from the hands of WBA Executive VP, Gilberto Jesus Mendoza.
